The smallest camera in medical imaging: The Omnivision OVM6948 CameraCubeChip® holds the record for being the world’s smallest commercially available camera. Measuring only 0.65 mm x 0.65 mm, with a z-height of just 1.158 mm, this camera is developed by Omnivision, a global technology company specializing in innovative advanced digital imaging, analog, and touch & display solutions for multiple applications across several industries.

The CameraCubeChip® is based on the tiny OVM6948 sensor, which holds the Guinness Record for being the world’s smallest commercially available image sensor. It can be mounted on medical instruments such as disposable guidewires, endoscopes, and catheters with diameters as small as 1.0 mm.

With its incredibly small size, it is perfectly suitable for procedures within the body’s narrowest blood vessels in neurology, ophthalmology, ENT, cardiology, spinal procedures, urology, gynecology, and arthroscopy.

Despite its small size, the OVM6948 CameraCubeChip® offers a high resolution of 200 x 200, or 40 KPixels, with a backside-illuminated design that produces high-quality images of sensitive areas in the human body.

It is also the only chip-on-tip camera with backside illumination in the world, providing better low-light performance and reducing LED heat. According to the Omnivision website, the sensor’s low power consumption results in less heat generated at the distal tip of the endoscope, improving patient comfort and allowing for longer-duration procedures.

This smallest camera in the world has a wide field of view of 120 degrees and an extended focus range of 3 mm to 30 mm. It can record video at up to 30 frames per second, and its analog output can transmit over 4 meters with minimal noise.
