The bear then bit unexpectedly – and didn’t let go of the man. To escape the animal, the volunteer severed his forearm at the elbow with a knife. The limbs were crushed during the attack. It is not yet known whether the severed arm can be sewn back on.

To help the Swiss man, several people who observed the incident rushed over. They then took the man 32-year-old to a hospital in Chiang Dao province, from where he was later transferred to a private hospital in the center of the province.

On the Internet, many praise the Swiss man for his “good and brave heart” because he decided to cut off his arm instead of hurting the bear. According to ThaiRath, the Asiatic black bear was rescued in 2013 after getting lost outside the forest.
