Kerry Washington Reveals Lionel Richie: Kerry Washington disclosed on Watch What Happens Live that her first celebrity crush was singer Lionel Richie. She pointed out that her dad brought her a Lionel Richie poster as a child.
While playing a game of ‘The First Timers Club’ on the Bravo talk show, host Andy Cohen asked Washington, “Who was your first celebrity crush?”
“Weirdly … I think Lionel Richie,” laughed Washington. “You brought me that Lionel Richie poster, remember?” she added, pointing to her dad Earl Washington, who was behind the bar at the Bravo Clubhouse. “Yes, yes!” replied her father.

The Scandal star also showed her interest in the “All Night Long” singer when she dressed up as him for Halloween 2022, sporting the same look he wore on the cover of his 1982 debut eponymous album.
Washington showed her longtime admiration for Richie by dressing as him for Halloween this year. On The Late Late Show, she confirmed being a huge Lionel fan with his music making her emotional.
The actress also revealed she realized she wanted to act after making her mom cry while playing a role. Despite her acclaimed career, Washington said she doesn’t feel successful yet.
Washington discussed her new memoir, which her parents read first. Her dad was proud but said it’s not the book he would’ve written. Meanwhile, her teacher mom heavily edited it. The book contains the bombshell that Washington recently learned her dad is not her biological father, upending her understanding of her story.
So while Washington has achieved fame, she still awaits feeling truly successful. But her childhood crush on Lionel Richie proves she was destined for stardom from the start.
