Donald Trump Becomes First President to Have Mug Shot Taken After Indictment

Donald Trump has become the first sitting or former U.S. president to have a mug shot taken. The booking photo was released Thursday by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office after Trump surrendered at an Atlanta jail.

The unprecedented mug shot comes following Trump’s latest indictment – his fourth this year. Trump was charged with 13 felony counts related to efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

After the indictment, Fulton County authorities said defendants would need to be properly booked by a deadline, unlike Trump’s previous cases. On Thursday, Trump turned himself in and was processed as inmate P01135809.

The 98-page Fulton County indictment alleges Trump was part of a multi-layered plot to overturn Georgia’s election outcome and block Joe Biden from getting the state’s 16 electoral votes. Others charged include Trump allies like Rudy Giuliani.

In total, 19 defendants were indicted for trying to change the election results. The indictment references 30 additional co-conspirators not facing charges.

Trump faces a felony charge under Georgia’s RICO Act, which carries a minimum 5-year sentence if convicted. However, the Republican-appointed judge could impose something less severe like probation.

Trump’s legal team negotiated a $200,000 bond before he surrendered. His mug shot marks an unprecedented moment – no other past or current U.S. president has ever been booked this way.
