David Foster and Katharine McPhee’s Son’s Nanny Dies in ‘Awful Tragedy’ for the Family

After McPhee, 39, said Friday that she and Foster, 73, faced an “awful tragedy” in their family, sources tell their 2-year-old son Rennie David’s nanny passed away suddenly.

The Smash! actress initially announced on Instagram that she had to cancel her remaining shows with Foster in Jakarta, Indonesia to fly home due to the “tragedy.”

She wrote, “Dearest Jakarta fans, It’s with a heavy heart I share I must miss our last 2 shows here. David and I have endured an awful tragedy in our family and I need to get back home to my loved ones.”

“Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish I could return to perform for you all,” the former American Idol finalist added, signing off, “Love, Katharine.”

According to Foster’s website, he carried on with the two scheduled Friday and Saturday performances at Jakarta’s Sentul International Convention Centre.

Commenting on McPhee’s Instagram post, Masked Singer judge Nicole Scherzinger wrote, “Sending my love and prayers for your family 🙏🏽❤️.” Linda Thompson, who was previously married to to Foster, also commented, “Sending you and David love, & hoping that everything is OK🙏🏻💜.” The Talk co-hostAmanda Kloots added, “Sending you loads of love. I’m thinking of you guys.”

The couple had planned a three-month touring break after Jakarta before U.S. shows this fall. Their tour is set to resume November 1 in Michigan.

Foster and McPhee are parents to Rennie. Last October, they told about his new musical talents.

“We think [he’ll be musical], but we don’t know,” Foster said. “If he ends up being a drummer, that would be great too. He loves watching our drummer, JR Robinson.”
