Blake Lively surprised her fans by announcing that she would not attend the 2023 Met Gala. Instead, she shared a photo of herself pumping breast milk in a bathroom, providing a glimpse into the realities of motherhood. While it was not the glitz and glamour we are used to seeing from her, Lively’s decision to skip the event and share this personal moment with her fans was relatable.
In expressing her decision to skip the event, Blake Lively told reporters, “You will not [see me on the red carpet]. But I will be watching.” When complimented on her outfit from the previous year’s event, she responded with humor, saying, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.” She also shared a snap of herself pumping breast milk on her Instagram, captioning it, “First Monday in May,” which is when the Met Gala is held yearly.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively welcomed their fourth baby.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their fourth child in February of this year and decided to stay home for the same reason. Despite recently giving birth, Lively quickly lost all her baby weight through a healthy diet and exercise routine and returned to her usual glamorous self.
Blake Lively is known for her over-the-top gowns with long, dramatic trains at the Met Gala, where she has been a regular attendee since 2008. Last year, her outfit paid homage to some of New York City’s most iconic buildings, with her look inspired by the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station.
Her gown had a copper-colored skirt that unfurled on the Met steps to reveal a green train, representing the oxidization of the Statue of Liberty over time. Even her Lorraine Schwartz crown was a nod to Lady Liberty! In 2018, she wore a Versace dress that took over 600 hours to bead, with a train so big she had to take a party bus to get to the venue.
Lively always knows how to make a statement at the Met Gala, and we look forward to seeing her return next year!
