A woman was found alive in a body bag: A 90-year-old woman who was pronounced dead was found breathing in a body bag hours later.
The Sao Jose Regional Hospital in Greater Florianopolis pronounced Norma Silveira da Silva dead at 11:40 p.m. on November 25. However, when he was taken to the crematorium, a worker was shocked to find him breathing.
Norma was then rushed back to the hospital where she sadly died with ‘infection’ as the cause of death.
Authorities are now investigating the horrific incident and claim that Norma’s family will sue the hospital.
“Saturday afternoon, I went to see him and he opened his eyes,” said Jessica Martinez Silvey Pereira, his caregiver.
“He didn’t have much stimulation, but he was able to open his eyes and see that we were there.”
Jessica described how the crematorium worker noticed that Norma was “breathing very poorly” when he opened the body bag.
“And because he was no longer conscious, he couldn’t call for help, he tried to breathe and he couldn’t,” she continued.
I mean, from 11:40 at night until 1:30 in the morning, he was in a body bag, almost dying.
While it is unclear whether the body bag affected his health, Brazil’s Medical Ethics Committee and Death Commission will investigate the tragedy.
The Regional Medical Council of the state of Santa Catarina said it was “aware of the situation and will establish appropriate procedures to monitor the case.”
